Caring for Your Handmade Gemstone Jewelry

It's really quite easy to care for your handmade gemstone and pearl jewelry.

1. Wear your jewelry often - it keeps the silver from tarnishing.

2. Tarnish can be removed by using a treated cloth that can be purchased at most jewelry and department stores. Avoid rubbing the stones with this cloth.

3. Store your jewelry carefully in a place where it won't bang into other objects.

4. Don't exercise vigorously while you're wearing your jewelry to protect it from body oils and perspiration.

5. Apply your cosmetics and perfume first, then put yourjewelry on.

6. To clean your jewelry, wipe it with a soft cloth. If you feel it's necessary, wipe it with a slightly damp cloth.

7. Don't use harsh chemicals or cleaners on your jewelry, and keep it away from chlorine.

8. Sterling silver does tarnish. Tarnishing can be minimized by keeping silver jewelry in a zip lock bag.

9. It's not a good idea to use ultrasonic cleaners on handmade jewelry, or to immerse it in water.

10. Store your jewelry out of direct sunlight. Sun can badly damage pearls and opals and can fade other stones.
