"Grand Canyon" pink opal opalite and jasper necklace
This beautiful planet is full of great wonders, and the Grand Canyon is one of them. It's so vast that it's just about incomprehensible. It's almost like trying to wrap your mind around infinity because it seems timeless and endless.
When I started to make this pink opal opalite and jasper necklace I was struck by the changing colors of the opalite. As an opal, it plays with the light. Not in the flashy way we think of opals, but in a much more subtle way. It reminds me of the way the colors change in the Grand Canyon. Every time you look at it, it looks different as the light changes. The subtle colors of gray, rust, yellow get darker and lighter. The sun shines here, a shadow there, the color changes again and again.
Taking pictures of this necklace was a little bit like taking pictures of the Grand Canyon. It was difficult to capture the nature of the stones because they were so changeable. I took pictures of it against various backgrounds. Against white or light brown it looked light, senna really brought out the pink tones, etc. Finally I tried blue, and that seemed to best portray the basic essence of the stones.
Because of the fascinating color play this necklace will go with just about anything. It's an adventure. It may not be the real Grand Canyon, but just let your mind soar a bit......
