Nevada Lapis Necklace
Lapis Nevada is a beautiful gemstone discovered in the state of Nevada in 1954. It is an opaque stone in shades of pink, green and cream. It's not a gemstone that is seen very often, but it is not terribly rare.
Lapis Nevada is actually a combination of many different minerals. The presence of the dominant minerals determines the color of each individual piece. It can be predominately pink, green, cream, rose-pink and even lavender.
Metaphysically, Lapis Nevada (or Nevada Lapis) is considered to be a stone of protection and courage. It is also said to help when a person is carrying heavy burdens and to help reduce headaches, back problems and depression.
The name "Nevada" is a Spanish word, meaning "snow covered". "Lapis" comes from the Latin word for "stone".
The hardness of Nevada Lapis depends on the hardness of the predominant mineral in the individual specimen.
