Handmade Jewelry - Rocky Butte Jasper

Rocky Butte Jasper is one of several unique gemstones found in eastern Oregon. In a one mile stretch there are 3 beautiful gemstones found in only that one area: Wildhorse Jasper, Owyhee Jasper and Rocky Butte Jasper.
 

Rocky Butte Jasper is a picture jasper because it often displays landscapes. It displays beautiful colors from green to orange to blue and shades of brown. It is similar in color to Wildhorse Jasper but is perhaps more colorful. It is gorgeous when it is cut into cabochons or flat beads because the colors and patterns are easily seen. It is equally beautiful when cut as round beads that are intriguing and interesting, with each bead in unique colors and patterns. Each individual gemstone is a work of art.
 

Jasper in general is a very grounding and calming gemstone and assists in meditation.
 

Rocky Butte Jasper is a rather hard gemstone with a hardness of 6.5 - 7 on Mohs scale of hardness, with 10 being the hardest.
