An Offering from Mother Earth
Soft green Pilot Mountain Turquoise nuggets, tiny purple oyster shell beads, purple spiny oyster beads, stamped origami Thai Hill Tribe fine silver beads, sterling silver toggle clasp.
Pilot Mountain Turquoise is quite rare in that it forms dentrite (fern like) inclusions. These are visible in some of the stones in this necklace. There is also some brown matrix as well as other interesting patterning in the individual beads. This turquoise is quite hard and takes a polish well. The nuggets are nicely rounded.
The Pilot Mountain Turquoise mine is in western Nevada. The mining started in 1905. Now a small amount of mining is done a couple of times a year. It is considered to be very fine turquoise.
The necklace is 26 inches long. The beads are 8-10mm X 6mm X 6mm on average. Some are a little bigger, some a little smaller.
