Goopi the Wonder Dog!

Goopi is our dog. Isn't he cute? After Hurricane Katrina the local animal shelter organized a temporary foster program for cats and dogs who were rescued and flown here from the New Orleans area. When we went to the shelter our very spirited and outgoing Australian Shepherd, Alfie, chose Goopi.When Goopi first came to our house he was so nervous that he just couldn't calm down. He had been through so much and was so anxious that he was like a person who couldn't sit still. After a day or two he calmed down and we realized that he was just about the sweetest dog on the planet. We estimate that Goopi had been on his own in that mess in New Orleans for two or three weeks. What a brave dog!He and Alfie were good buddies. Alfie was definitely the benevolent alpha dog, but Goopi, being the diplomat that he is, managed to often win at "keep away" and other doggy games. Sadly, Alfie died two years ago of prostate cancer. (Yes, neutered dogs get it too, but it's not common.) Having Goopi with us was very healing and helped us get through the loss of Alfie.Goopi is a big part of our family - he is very happy and very much loved. I guess you could say that he runs things around here. Now if he could just learn to talk - to tell us his story.
