Handmade Jewelry - Nacozari Turquoise

Nacozari turquoise is known for its beautiful blue color and its relative lack of matrix. Most Nacozari is blue, ranging from light blue to a deeper rich blue. What matrix it does have is usually black. Often this black matrix has a wispy pattern. I have, however seen Nacozari turquoise in green and other shades of blue/green, which is rather rare. Nacozari turquoise is considered to be very fine turquoise.

The Nacozari mine, southwest of Bisbee, AZ in Mexico was mined for only a couple of years. This means that Nacozari turquoise, like so many other Southwest turquoise varieties is becoming increasingly rare. Good quality turquoise is becoming more difficult to come by, thus more expensive.
