The first time you set eyes on Rainforest Jasper Rhyolite you are in for a visual treat. It is fascinating with it's dark green background, spots of orange, light green, and beige in crazy, often orbital patterns.

Although the common name is Rainforest Jasper, it is really a rare form of rhyolite lava, or volcanic rock. As the lava cools, gas bubbles locked in the lava create pockets that are subsequenty filled with flows of agate, jasper or other minerals. Thus it is closer to granite than it is to jasper or the chalcedony family of gemstones. It is actually a rock because it is made of multiple materials.

Rainforest jasper rhyolite is found primarily in western Australia, but it is found is several parts of the world. Good Rainforest Jasper Rhyolite can be rather pricy and seems to be becoming more so with time.

Metaphysically much is attributed to Rainforest Jasper Rhyolite including a deep connection to planet Earth, increased joy and self esteem, improved communication and listening skills, a strong vibration for change and much more.

It is a hard stone and takes a good polish. It is a 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness with 10 being the hardest.
