Hemimorphite - a different kind of gemstone

Hemimorphite is one of my favorite stones - but there are so many! I guess the main reason I like it so much is that the colors are so vibrant, as if lighted from within. Even the light greens and light blues have a unique intensity, even though the colors are pastel. Also, there is a translucent quality to some hemimorphite that gives it an unusual ethereal quality.

Hemimorphite is considered to be a rare stone by some. It's out there, but it's not very common.

The word "hemimorphite" refers to it's unique crystal structure. It is found in several locations in the US and Mexico, as well as other places in the world.

Most hemimorphite is stabilized, which means that it is treated with a resin like substance that makes the stone stronger, as it is naturally quite fragile. The untreated stones have a hardness of 4.5 - 5 on the mohs scale of hardness, with 10 being the hardest.

Hemimorphite is a strong stone for forgiveness and helps to release anger. It also helps to develop self esteem and self respect. It assists in personal growth. On a physical level, hemimorphite can give pain relief and is healing for blood disorders and cellular disorders. It is said to protect from malice. It is associated with the heart chakra.
