Pink lepidolite and lepidolite in general is a wonderful and unique gemstone to use in handmade jewelry.

Pink lepidolite usually has a lacy quality that I like. Because of this and the wonderful depth and sparkle of the gemstone I think of it as a feminine gemstone. I think it has a light, magical quality. Just my opinion. The sparkly effect reminds me of pixie dust. Lepidolite isn't always pink. It can be pink and it can be purple and deep purple. It can also be red.

Lepidolite is a form of mica. It actually is lithium rich mica and is a source of the mineral lithium. When it is impregnated with quartz it becomes a minor gemstone. It is not a commonly occurring gemstone because it is rather unusual for all of the elements to occur together in one place.

The sparkly quality in lepidolite is caused by layers of mica. These layers are actually transparent. The light shines through the layers and causes a phase shift and the sparkly appearance is the result.

Perhaps because it is so rich in lithium, lepidolite is considered a very relaxing gemstone. It is said to promote calm, to have a very high vibration and is associated with the higher chakras. Some people find that wearing lepidolite helps them sleep well.

Lepidolite is a soft gemstone, 2.5 to 3.5, with 10 being the hardest. This seems to be too soft for jewelry that can take a beating, like bracelets and rings. It's probably best in necklaces and earrings. However it's worn, lepidolite is a beautiful gemstone and is certainly a treat for the eyes as well as the the soul.
