Handmade Turquoise Necklace - Fox Turquoise

There's nothing like handmade turquoise jewelry. I'm a bit of a turquoise nut, although I by no means consider myself to be an expert.

Turquoise is mined in many locations around the world, and has been used throughout history as an adornment, in religious rituals and as a healing stone.

When you buy handmade turquoise jewelry it's important to know that there are many grades of turquoise, from stones that look like turquoise but are dyed imitations, to rare, gem quality turquoise that can cost well over $500 for a piece the size of a marble. When I handcraft jewelry with turquoise I try to know the mine the turquoise comes from, although that isn't always possible.

I do have some favorite turquoise, such as Fox turquoise, which is a little rare, and is fascinating in its different colors and patterns. I make a lot of handmade turquoise jewelry from Kingman turquoise, which is excellent quality and very beautiful.

There are many other varieties of turquoise I'll write about at another time.

You are so right about

You are so right about imitations. I bought a string at a gem show that the vendor said was turquoise. While working with the beads and reaming out one, I discovered the inside was white. Obviously imitation dyed stones.Expensive lesson.

Hi, Sorry you were burned, I

Hi, Sorry you were burned, I have been too. You probably know about dyed howlite, and there's magnisite too, which has a spider web like pattern that makes it look like real turquoise.
