Handmade jade and silver butterfly necklace.

Butterflies are associated with sweet things. They probably have special significance for all of us in some way. For some they may simply be a delightful being to behold, for others they may hold profound meaning. This butterfly is made of Thai HIll Tribe silver. The knotted beads are Burmese Jade. The clasp is also Thai Hill Tribe silver. This little butterfly sets my heart all aflutter. 

Thai Hill Tribe silver is almost pure silver, up to 99.9%. It was made by the Hill Tribes of Thailand where the art is handed down from generation to generation. Even most of the tools used to make the silver pieces are hand made by the silversmiths themselves.

Burmese jade is a form of jade called jadeite mined in Burma. It is sought after all over the world. I've always thought of it as a very special gemstone. It's a little rare and it's a hard gemstone. It's rarely dyed. For millenia it has been revered in Asian cultures as being a very healing and protective gemstone. It is certainly up there with the great ones.

The necklace is 19 inches long. The silver butterfly is approximately 1.5 inches wide and 1 inch high.
